Infrastructure of Department:
Clinical laboratory is a part of the central laboratory of the hospital, equipped with automated diagnostic facilities for routine microbiological investigations in- Bacteriology, Serology, Virology, Immunology, Parasitology, Mycology, &Mycobacteriology.
Designated Molecular (RT-PCR) laboratory for providing essential Molecular services.
Participation in HIV Testing programme(ICTC center) of Government of Gujarat.
Participation in TB control programme (RNTCP center) of Government of Gujarat.
Participation in IDSP,MNYprogramme of Government of Gujarat.
Participating in Hospital infection & prevention control program and plays a crucial role in Antibiotic Stewardship Program for the institute.
Participating in EQAS programme conducted by Indian Association of Medical Microbiology and other National Bodies.

Concept of Teaching & Teaching Philosophy:
The teaching/training activities of the department include Interactive lectures,small group discussions, tutorials, self-directed learning, seminars, integrated teaching, demonstrations and practical sessions in Microbiology.
The curriculum is developed as per the norms of National Medical Commission (NMC)with aim to provide understanding of the natural history of infectious diseases in order to deal with the etiology, pathogenesis, pathogenicity, laboratory diagnosis, treatment, control and prevention of these infections and infectious diseases.
Periodical evaluation of teaching/ training of students are carried out during the course of study as per NMC norms.
Students are encouraged to develop analytical and comprehension ability by visit to departmental museum, hospital wards and interactive bedside tutorial for understanding of infectious diseases process of national importance in relation to the clinical, therapeutic and preventive aspects of common health diseases.
